"Golf is the greatest game in the world. I began to play golf at a young age and fell in love with it immediately. I enjoy the challenge of golf and the desire to improve has been a constant feature of my life.

Winning The Open, being awarded an MBE at Buckingham Palace and playing in the Ryder Cup are just a few of the highlights of my golfing career.

I was invited to become the honorary president of SALJGA in 2002 when the organisation started up and I was happy to accept.

I turned pro at the age of 17 and I know how important it is for young golfers to be given the opportunity to learn and improve their skills.

The facilities at St Andrews are just fantastic and I have had a lot of fun trying out the bays at the Golf Practice Centre and the equipment at the Academy for myself.

I hope that all SALJGA members will find golf as exciting and satisfying a game as I have done.

Keep playing and practicing… and keep enjoying the great game that was invented on St Andrews Links."
