The SALJGA season starts with a win10/03/2009

The 2010 golf season started in earnest for SALJGA on Sunday with a win against St Leonards School.

The annual match took place on the Strathtyrum as a four ball better ball in cold but good conditions.  Although SALJGA ran out winners four to nil, all the games were close through the halfway stage.

Iain Watson and Zak Bedford enjoyed an excellent game with Roberta Roeller and Blair Morrison, Iain and Zak winning 2 and 1 after both Roberta and Blair came to grief in the greenside bunker on the short 16th.  Ryan Fenton and Jonny Regan both played well to beat Stefano Perichini and David Niven 4 and 3 and Conor MacCallum and Ross Proudfoot proved too strong for Andrew Duck and Claudia Beasely, winning 6 and 4.  The tightest game involved Sophie Maguire and Rebecca Todd, representing SALJGA, and Kirsty Graham and Jemma Brown from St Leonards.  All four girls were hitting the ball well and the game was still alive on the final hole which Sophie and Rebecca won to record the final SALJGA point.

Nick Randerson, Junior Golf Co-ordinator, said ‘My thanks and congratulations go to all participants who played the match in a first class spirit.  I would also like to thank Liz Dunsmuir and Rosie Dawson for arranging the fixture and St Leonards School for the excellent ‘all day breakfast’ that we enjoyed following the match’.
