The evening of the match was fine and dry but it was extremely windy with scenes reminiscent of the Open at Royal Birkdale with the balls refusing to stop on the putting green once affected by the wind.
The match was extremely tight until Katie took a stranglehold in the latter stages of the first nine, winning three holes on the trot to go 2 up at the turn. Although Katie won the 11th to go 3 up, Lauren fought back well and the match was finely poised at the 16th with Katie only 1 up. Lauren had the misfortune to find a bunker to lose this hole and the match was over after the 17th with Lauren only managing a half.
Both girls coped extremely well in the difficult conditions but Katie’s stronger hitting gave her an advantage when hitting into the wind which Lauren found impossible to counter.
