James and Ewan started the final strongly but it was Ewan who took the early initiative and was 2 up after 4 holes. He then suffered an unfortunate setback when his excellent drive on the fifth mysteriously disappeared after a ‘suspicious looking’ four-ball played the 14th hole via the 5th fairway and he was forced to concede.
James evened the score after achieving a birdie on the 6th and the match remained all square until another birdie on the 9th allowed James to take the lead and reach the turn 1 up.
It was a very good match that was played in an excellent spirit by both players; the final score belies the competitive nature of the game which bar a disappearing ball and a couple of wayward shots would have been a lot closer.
