The 12 team members were all aged 12 and under and the vast majority are yet to achieve a handicap. The match provided an opportunity for our up and coming youngsters to participate in some competitive golf in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The match was played as a 4-ball better ball competition with strokes being allocated where necessary to ensure even competition.
Sam Todd and Callum Reid enjoyed an extremely tight game against Fraser Gatherum which was halved after Sam and Callum won the final hole. Margot MacLean and Emma Rickman won their game against Brooke Robertson and Charlotte Leek whilst Iain Sandeman and Scott Reid lost a tight game against Jamie Urquhart and James Leek. Emma Graham and Aimee Rigg also lost in a close game with Steven Dalrymple and Charleen Wilson but Taylor Jones and George Lorimer beat David Killean and Cameron Lawson and Rory Morrison-Low and Edward Shannon also won against Christian Barbour and Lyle Robertson which resulted in a 3½ to 2½ win to SALJGA.
The result was secondary to the main objective which was to enjoy the occasion and play some golf. In this regard the evening was a great success and all the participants were treated to some warming soup and sandwiches after the match.
Nick Randerson, Junior Golf Co-ordinator, said ‘There was a huge amount of interest in this fixture from SALJGA members and I apologise to those not selected on this occasion. However, there will be a return match at Cupar later in the year and I shall also be holding some more competitions on the Balgove so keep watching your inbox for information. My congratulations to all the players who took part and also to Sandra Morrison-Low and Alison Sandeman whose help on the evening was essential in ensuring that the fixture could go ahead.’
