SALJGA Regains the Robertson-Philp Trophy in Style28/11/2011

SALJGA took a commanding 4-0 lead into the second leg of our annual fixture against Scotscraig which was played on the Jubilee on Sunday.  Murray Watson captained the same team who represented SALJGA at Scotscraig and they made no mistake by winning the second leg 3-1 thereby regaining the trophy with an aggregate score of 7-1.

Sunday’s match was played in extremely difficult conditions; the strong winds causing everybody difficulties on the tight Jubilee links.  Murray and Ally McDougall led the way with a 2-1 win over Tom Ogilvy and Ryan Fenton with Zack Bedford and Cameron Cambell following with an impressive 6 and 5 victory over Bradley McKenzie and Dan Hill.  Callum Ness and Andrew Clarkson claimed Scotscraig only point with a win by 2 and 1 over SALJGA’s Jemma Brown and Kyle Finlayson in a match that see-sawed throughout the afternoon.  Christopher Fleming and Kyle Ferguson sealed SALJGA’s emphatic victory, winning by 2 holes from Lewis Davey and Lewis Finn.  Although the wind was brutal and quite a few balls were left out on the course, everybody enjoyed some great hospitality from the staff of the Links Clubhouse after the match before Scotscraig’s captain, Ryan Fenton presenting Murray with the Robertson-Philp Trophy.  SALJGA have now won this impressive trophy 3 times in the last 4 years.  This fixture marks the close of SALJGA activities until winter coaching begins again in February 2012.  Enjoy the winter break but remember to keep hitting those balls at the range.
