Ewan Scott confirms his Matchplay credentials07/07/2010

Ewan Scott beat Iain Ronaldson in the Matchplay Quaich which was played on the New Course on Friday 2 July in brutal wind conditions. The SALJGA Challenge Tour event is played as a scratch competition over four rounds.

Each round of thecompetition was played on a different course, the first round was played on the Strathtyrum, the second on the Eden and the semi-final was played on the Jubilee before the last two standing met on the New Course for the final shoot out.

Iain beat Ryan Cowan and enjoyed an excellent win over Ben Kinsley in earlier rounds before dispatching Michael Clark in the semi-final.  Ewan had the advantage of a bye in the first round but then had to beat Ruairidh Robertson and Ally McDougall before meeting Iain in the final.  The match was nip and tuck over the first third of the round with Iain generally holding a slight advantage before Ewan pulling it back to all square.  However, through the turn Ewan’s putter started holing some excellent long putts and he upped his standard of play to win four holes on the bounce and take a stranglehold on the match.  Iain tried hard but was having to attempt low percentage plays to re-capture the initiative and in the end lost the match 5 and 4.

Nick Randerson, Junior Golf Co-ordinator, said 'It was an excellent competition for both players and I was extremely impressed with the manner with which they coped with a desperately difficult wind and the excellent sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the match.'
