Nick Randerson, Junior Golf Co-ordinator, said 'The entry for the girls was disappointing as three of the original entrants had to withdraw which left only Chloe Goadby and Sophie Maguire to fight out a 36 hole match played over two days.' Chloe grabbed the initiative after the first round with a four hole advantage which she never looked likely to let slip. Although Sophie battled gamely over the final 18 holes she was never able to make any inroads into Chloe’s lead who was very pleased to win the title after being runner-up last year.
Cameron Campbell had a slightly harder road to his title as he had to battle through four rounds before being crowned Matchplay champion with a hard fought win over Sam Heggie in the final. Sam enjoyed wins over Kyle Ferguson and Keith Bowman before coming unstuck against Campbell on a windy evening on the Eden Course. Cameron beat Owen McManus in the first round and took two extra holes to beat last year’s winner, Zak Bedford, in the subsequent round. He then beat Owen’s brother Ryan in the semi-final to cement his popularity in the McManus household before beating Sam 4 and 2 in the final.
Nick said, 'Sam played well but found the wind a bit tricky on some holes and Cameron was very steady and took good advantage of all the shots he was awarded. I am grateful to all the SALJGA members who took part in this year’s competition, particularly as it had to be scheduled during term time due the Open.'
